Don't
give up the fight - extract
„Hi, my name is Sean.
Welcome to what
I think, might be the worst day of my life, at
least my life so far. You see I am only ten.
What do I know? Maybe it will get worse, but
for now, this is bad enough! You say, what
could be so bad? Well I’ll tell you. I have
to
move, for one year, from Malibu, California to
a place called Germany. But, here is the
worst part; there is nowhere to surf!
I am
doomed. A year stuck in a place with no
ocean, no surf.
I think it was at dinner when my world ended,
at least for the next year. One night at dinner,
my father stopped the meal and said he had
some wonderful news. We all listened with
anticipation because Dad was always doing
interesting things. But from the first word,
I knew I was doomed. I felt like I might
explode. Dad explained that he had been
made head of production of a big movie film
being shot - Then it happened. I couldn’t
believe what I was hearing. We were to be
moving to Germany for the next year. Dad
said, „What do you think about that?“
I thought to myself: „Oh
you don't want to know what I think about that! “ After
dinner, Dad said, „Sean, you don't seem happy
with this! What is the problem ?“. „Well,
Dad, I just
looked Germany up on the Internet, and
there is nowhere to surf. What will I do?
I always thought that Germans travel to Malibu;
nobody goes from Malibu to Germany.“
Dad laughed and said: „It will be O.K. You
will adjust!". „I don't think so" I
said. „I think
I am being set up for some major damage“
